About Me
Kids don’t need to be fixed … they need to be understood.
Jillian Shapiro, Psychologist and Founder, Shapiro Learning
I’m a curious, warm and thorough psychologist with a Master of Educational and Developmental Psychology, as well as a law degree and MBA. I’ve spent the last 15 years helping kids, teens and families as a school psychologist and privately in my practice. I’m known for my expertise in comprehensive educational assessment (‘testing’), my ability to strengthen partnerships between families and schools, and my practical, solution-focused approach to counselling.
When you work with me you get someone who deeply understands kids and schools, plus a clear communicator with a practical, analytical, get-to-the-point nature. I am evidence-based, ethical, and grounded.
I know what it’s like to feel lost in the classroom and not know how to ask for help.
I lost part of my hearing at age 3 and have worn hearing aids ever since, though you wouldn’t know it unless I told you. I’m open about this and share it with kids from the start. They get to see a real-world example of someone with a hidden difference who isn’t letting it limit her, someone who knows how to self-advocate as if it’s just a normal part of life.
I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in life and I’m grateful to be able to show kids that sometimes things are difficult, but less so when you know why and how to ask for what you need.
